The trip

The adventure began in 2024!

Since 2024, ATHRA has been organizing cultural trips to Reconnect Assyrians (Chaldeans and Syriacs) in the diaspora to their ancestral lands. These trips start in Turkey, in Tur Abdin, and continue in Iraq, in Iraqi Kurdistan , taking place in spring during the Assyro-Babylonian New Year, also known as Akitu.

ATHRA offers activities and excursions:

  • Visits to ancient Assyrian archaeological sites and ancient monasteries : Mor Gabriel, Mor Yakup, Khinis, Jerwan, Erbil Citadel, Rabban Hormizd, etc.
  • Meetings with the local community : Interactions with personalities living in cities and villages such as Mardin, Mydiat, Hassana, Zakho , Nahla, Alqosh, etc.
  • Cultural celebrations : Participation in festivals such as Akitu in Dohuk where thousands of people march, sing and dance to celebrate the renewal of spring together.

With this journey, ATHRA offers you a trip through time and space, bearing witness to the millennial presence of the Assyrians in the region and their dynamism.
